Glossary

Reference

  • This section introduces terminologies used for MotionBoard and the manual.

  • When a term has several meanings, Arabic numerals are added at the beginning of each description to distinguish one from another.

3D map Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. It is an item that represents three-dimensional spaces. You can visualize the data in space.

Action

A collective term for actions performed by mouse operations.

Action Button

Another name for the button item.

Action Chain

A linkage indicating the execution order of button actions. You can check it with Button Action Navigator.

Action Type

A function that can be assigned to a button item.

Activation

A procedure for verifying that the product is being used with an official license.

Additional Item

A newly created item in the context of data source definition. This item is created when the data source you want to use does not contain the item for your purpose.

Alert Condition

A condition for blinking data points (for chart items), whole rows, or specific columns (for spreadsheet items) that match the specified condition.

Area Determination

A function that is used to determine if a specified user is at a specified location at a specified time for Realtime Data Connection.

Area Summarization

A function which aggregates values of points represented by latitude-longitude pairs in each area for GEO items.

Arrow Chart

Arrow-shaped icons indicating if the value is larger/smaller than or the same as the value in the previous cell in a summary table chart. Icons are displayed in the blank area of a cell. They also are displayed when you specify ranking conditions.

Authentication Filter

A function for authenticating a login user for the MotionBoard server based on the list of permitted users in Realtime Data Connection.

Authentication Key

A key used for authentication when accumulating real-time data in the MotionBoard server in Realtime Data Connection. A password dedicated for Realtime Data Connection used to log in to the MotionBoard server.

Authorization

In OAuth, the act of giving MotionBoard the permission of a user of a resource you want to connect to, such as Data sources, file systems, chat apps, so that MotionBoard can use them. After authorization, MotionBoard is authenticated using an access token issued by the authorized server to which it connects, and allowed to connect to the resource.

Axis

Row axis (X-axis) and value axis (Y-axis) in the context of charts. The row axis represents row item values and the value axis represents summary item values.

Base Font

A font displayed in the board item area and Navigator. If you do not specify a font explicitly when creating or editing an item, this font is applied.

Base Line

A line drawn in a chart area based on the specified value (standard value) of a summary item.

Basic Item

An item included in a data source to use in the context of data source definitions.

Board

A screen designed for visualizing data and displaying the analysis in the context of MotionBoard. The following two types are available: "Item Board" and "Link Board". The item board is comprised of "User Layer" that stores the user's operation results and "Board Definition Layer" that stores the board definition.

Board Access URL

URL of a board. If single sign-on is allowed in MotionBoard, you can open a board directly just by specifying its URL on a web browser. It is also called Board URL.

Board Cache

Cache used for displaying boards in the MotionBoard Mobile. Whether the board cache being created or not depends on the settings.

Board Control

Board menu and board tree.

Board Definition Layer

A layer used for setting item definitions and the placement of items on a board. Only one layer is provided per board. Since the operation on this layer is saved as a board definition, it affects all users.

Board design document

A design document created by outputting the board settings to an HTML file. The settings for the boards, the settings for the items created on the boards, and the information about the used data sources and datasets will be output to the board design documents.

Board Item Area

An area where you can place and use the created items in the context of MotionBoard.

Board Jump

One of the data point actions. You can add a link to another board as a menu item in the right-click menu.

Board-menu item

A board menu containing the links to other boards as menus. Users can create the original board menu, and use it instead of a standard board menu. A bar itself is created, while the Custom Menu adds a menu to a standard board menu.

Board Path

The path to the board. It is a path from the root folder of the board tree to a folder containing the board.

Board Private

A collective term for what can be created and used on a specific board only. The target objects are data source definitions, items, files, and so on. To use it on another board, you need to convert to the shared item definition, or copy onto another board via the item clipboard.

Board Shared

A collective term for objects that can be created based on a "shared definition" that is shared by all boards. The target objects are data source definitions, items, files, and so on. If you modify the shared definition, the changes you made are reflected in all the objects that are using this shared definition. This feature is helpful if you want to use the same item on multiple boards.

Board Signboard

A function for the board viewers to exchange opinions. To display the signboard, place the mouse pointer over the board name on the Board menu. You can post a comment or upload an image here.

Board Tree

An area on the left side of the board, which is designed for displaying boards and folders containing boards.

Bridge Client

A computer in which MotionBoard Bridge Client is installed. It operates as a relay point when exchanging data between the Bridge server and a data server in a site. It also summarizes data obtained from data servers and returns the summary results to the Bridge server.

Bridge Group

A group of Bridge Clients. Bridge Clients belong to any Bridge group. When you register multiple Bridge Clients in a Bridge group, a redundant configuration is automatically provided.

Bridge Server

MotionBoard providing Bridge service. It generates Bridge Client installers and centrally manages the entire Bridge Service.

Bridge Service

A mechanism for exchanging data safely between MotionBoard and a remote data server. Without using a dedicated line or a VPN that is usually required for exchanging data safely, you can exchange intranet data safely via the Internet. You can access data even if you have set up a firewall for your intranet.

Built-in SVF output engine

A function that has the same roles as the SVF output engine built in MotionBoard.

Button Actions

An execution of set action when the specified conditions are satisfied in the context of button items. It may also refer to a group of functions that are executed when a user clicks a button item.

Button Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. This item allows you to execute the assigned function by clicking the button. You can use these button items to display other chart items, maximize the display of items, or for other features.

Calendar item

One of the items for MotionBoard. Items used for displaying calendar based on a dataset. These items display data in the calendar format.

Calendar Type

One of the display formats (view type) for calendar items. This format is a standard calendar style displaying each day in a single cell. This type of view does not use a data source, and it is used simply as a standard calendar.

Candidate Filter

The function which hides the search candidates that do not relate to the specified search condition so that they are not available for the other search conditions when multiple search conditions exist.

Card Format

One of the data display formats in the context of spreadsheet items. You can display data according to a layout created on the dedicated layout screen. Because the format of displaying data by item unit is similar to a card, the name "card format" is used. It is also referred to as Card Spreadsheet.

Card Spreadsheet Format

One of the layouts for SVF Report. A layout to output reports using card format settings created for spreadsheet items.

Cell Chart

A function that displays charts based on the values of each cell in the context of summary table charts.

Chart Area

An area where a chart appears.

Chart data

Data set on the Chart tab on the Data Source Editor screen.

"Chart Editor" screen

A screen designed for changing the chart item settings.

Chart items

One of the items for MotionBoard. An item used for creating charts based on a dataset. This item allows you to display charts including line charts and bar charts, as well as to filter data and perform various analyses.

Chart Scroll Bar

A slider or a scroll bar used for adjusting the increase/decrease of the number of data entries displayed in the chart area. It is placed at the bottom of the chart area.

Chart Template

A collection of settings including the appearance and design of the chart.

Chat integration

A function to send messages, images, alert occurrence status, etc. delivered due to task executed in MotionBoard to the user's mobile devices via the chat applications.

Chronological Axis

The axis used to arrange the data in the row items in the specified chronological unit in the context of charts.

Clustering

A mechanism or a technology to use multiple units of MotionBoard as if it is a single unit of MotionBoard. It may also refer to how computers are connected. In addition, one of the forecast and analysis methods has the same name. This method is called "cluster analysis" in MotionBoard to avoid confusion.

Column Item
  1. An item that segments summary values in the context of charts. It forms a legend when combined with summary items.

  2. The items placed at Column Item on the Chart tab on the Data Source Editor screen in the context of data source definitions.

Column Style
  1. The style of cells in the column direction (such as the cell background, the font for values, font size, and so on) in summary table charts and spreadsheet items.

  2. The display style of the column items in charts. In the case of a line chart, for example, you can switch to a solid line, a dashed line, or a curve. You can create a combo chart by changing the column style.

Combined Data Source

A term used to describe when multiple data sources are used in the data source definition. Supported data varies depending on the join conditions for data sources.

Combo Chart

A chart displaying a line chart and a column (stacked) chart simultaneously. This chart alone allows you to see the transition of items (a feature of the line chart) as well as to compare items (a feature of the column chart).

Command Line Tool

A tool (program) used to execute MotionBoard functions from the shell, command prompt, and so on.

Comment
  1. Text and function added to various areas, including boards, items, and data points.

  2. The text and function posted or replied on a board in the context of board signboards.

  3. The text posted or replied for items in the context of comment signboard items.

  4. Input field (property) on items and functions provided for adding notes.

Comment signboard item

One of the items for MotionBoard. An item used as a signboard for exchanging opinions and information written by users.

Container Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. An item for handling multiple items as a group.

Controller

One of the cluster components. It refers to the node that aims to efficiently operate the data server.

Conversion to In-Memory

Create an in-memory table in in-memory and store data in the data source in the in-memory table to make it available.

Cover Sheet Format

One of the layouts for SVF Report. A layout used for outputting pages like cover sheets by using text, image files, items on the board, and page information including output date.

Custom Address Book

Additional data for Geocoding. This item is useful to specify longitude-latitude data corresponding to a given name or to change latitude-longitude data corresponding to an address.

Custom Authentication

A unique authentication method for MotionBoard. This method is used for managing users who log in to MotionBoard through a unique authentication system.

Custom Item

One of the additional items that you can create in the data source definition. This item is useful to use calculation formulas prepared in the connect location database, such as SQL scalar function and arithmetic operations, or to edit text strings.

Custom Menu

A menu created on the standard board menu and assigned a button item (feature). Menu items are added to the standard board menu bar for the Custom Menu, while a bar itself is created for the Board-Menu Item.

Custom Role

One of the role types. The role created by a user for specific purposes. It is created when the system roles do not meet the user's intended purposes.

Custom View

A view created by specifying an SQL statement for each external connection setting or the name of a screen (tab) where you create a view. The created view can be handled as the same as normal data sources.

Dashboard Format

One of the output formats of Excel Report. the format to output items created on a board to an Excel file sheet.

Data Input Item

One of the additional items that you can create in the data source definition. It is used for entering data. The entered data is retained in MotionBoard.

Data Label

Value and legend of a data point. It is displayed near the data point. Values are displayed using the same unit as the value axis.

Data Point

Summary value in a chart. How data points are represented depends on the chart type. In line charts, the values at the intersections of the row and summary items indicate the data points, and the line connecting each value becomes the "line" of the chart. It is represented by the values at the intersections of the row and summary items as well as by the bar shape in bar charts.

Data Point Action

A function assigned by a user to the right-click menu of the data point. These actions include storing data point values to user system variables and opening a particular board.

Data Server
  1. One of the cluster components in the context of In-Memory OLAP. It refers to a node containing an area in which in-memory tables are stored.

  2. A PC installed at a site where Bridge Clients are located, and used for storing data that functions as a data source, in the context of Bridge Service. It exchanges data with the Bridge server via the Bridge Client.

  3. A PC installed at a site where MotionBoard to be paired is installed, and used for storing data that functions as a data source in the context of Federation Service.

Dataset

Data aggregated and extracted according to the data source definition based on data obtained from the data source by MotionBoard. "Searching for items" is synonymous with "Searching for datasets".

Data Source

Data used as a base for aggregation (a database or CSV file accessible via external connection settings). To use a data source for an item, you need to create a data source definition appropriate for usage and to extract the dataset using this definition.

Data Source Editor screen

A screen for creating and editing the data source definitions that are used as conditions for extracting data from data sources such as tables and views in databases, CSV, Excel files, and so on.

Data Supplement

A function or a setting to fill an area for non-existent data in the data source in the context of data source definitions. You need to create "Supplement List" that contains data to be filled in advance. For example, when you display a chart of monthly sales amount, this feature is useful for avoiding blank display of the month in which no sales were recorded.

Data Tip

A rectangle area containing data point information. It appears when you place the mouse pointer over a data point in a chart.

Date Group Item

One of the additional items that you can create in the data source definition. This item is used for grouping date (or date-time) type data or date (or date-time) format data stored in the text-type items by week, quarter, or fiscal year.

Default Domain

A term indicating the domain which can be omitted from the user ID when you log in to MotionBoard. The default of the default domain is "local" indicating MotionBoard.

Definition

A file containing setting information for each of various purposes in the context of MotionBoard. In many cases, this term is added at the end of a noun. For example, "item definition" is the setting information of an item, indicating an item type and the appearance. "Data source definition" is the setting information for retrieving data from a database table or a CSV file using the external connection settings, and for displaying the data in a desired form, such as on a chart item. "Board definition" is the setting information indicating the position of items placed on a board, as well as the show/hide settings of the menus and areas.

Device Authentication

One of the access restrictions. At login, the information stored in the device is used for authentication.

Difference Comparison

One of the snapshot output conditions. The settings used to export difference comparison data generated by comparing snapshots of difference generations.

Display Point

A point displaying data on a map in the context of GEO items. It is also called a point.

Domain

Name or ID of the user authentication destination used for logging in to MotionBoard. When the authentication destination is MotionBoard, it is called "local domain".

Drill actions

A function or operation that allows you to filter data in increments and to display the source data (in spreadsheet format) of the chart. The available actions are Drill Down, Drill Up, and Drill Through.

Drill Down

One of the drill actions. A function or an operation to view the aggregate results in the data one level below (lower) than the data point on a chart.

Drill Through

One of the drill actions. A function or an operation to view the detailed data of a data point on the chart in spreadsheet format.

Drill Through Relation

A function to use the drill-through result of a chart (detailed data of a data point) in the relation in the context of the user relation.

Drill Up

One of the drill actions. A function or an operation to view the aggregate results of the data level above (one-level higher than) the data point on the chart.

Driver ZIP File

A file necessary for establishing a connection between MotionBoard and a database. To connect to a database that is not supported by MotionBoard as standard, you need to obtain a respective JDBC driver for the database and create this file accordingly.

Dr.Sum

A BI tool enabling high-speed aggregation of information in the enterprise system databases used for management, sales, and other business activities. It may also refer to a database engine used for aggregating information.

Dr.Sum Datalizer

A user interface designed to aggregate data from Dr.Sum (used as database engine) and to report the result.

Dynamic Change Icons

Icons (functions) to view charts from different angles or to change displays. The icons are placed in line on the upper-left corner of the chart area.

Edit Board Mode

A state in which you can edit a board (and you can save board definitions). The green boundary between the board menu and the board item area indicates that you are in this mode.

Editor Menu

A dedicated menu for Edit Board mode that is displayed at the bottom of the board.

everyone

One of the groups used for managing users. It is provided by default in MotionBoard. It is prepared to grant privileges collectively to groups that are not set privileges.

Excel Report

A report outputting images and data of items placed on the MotionBoard board in the Excel file format. Layouts for the report are created on the Layout Editor screen.

Excel Template

Settings used for loading an Excel file as a MotionBoard data source. This is different from "Template Excel" used with Excel Report.

Exif Image

An image or a file with Exif information added. Used to show thumbnails based on the Exif latitude-longitude information on a map of a GEO item.

External Connection Settings

Settings used for connecting to a database or an authentication system.

External Variable

One of the variables for MotionBoard. This is used to pass a value to MotionBoard system variables when opening MotionBoard. Specify the variable in the login URL of MotionBoard to pass a value. It is treated as a user system variable in MotionBoard.

Federation Service

A mechanism for sharing data safely between two units of connected MotionBoard. Without using a dedicated line or a VPN that is usually required for exchanging data safely, you can exchange intranet data safely via the Internet. You can access data even if you have set up a firewall for your intranet.

File Connector

A function granting direct access to files and online storage services in a server where MotionBoard is running, as well as to files in FTP servers.

Filter Component

A function (component) to search and filter datasets by items. You can create only one component for each item component from a filter item.

Filter Item

An item used to search and filter datasets. Unlike other items, you can create only one filter item for each dataset. Although the name includes the word "item", you cannot create this type of item from the item toolbar.

Free Layout Mode

One of the board types and creation methods. A mode to freely place items such as charts and buttons.

Free Placement

Placing items by ignoring the partitions in the context of boards in Layout Mode. It is created by dragging on a board when you determine the size of the item to be created.

FROM-TO Function

In the context of GEO items, a function designed to visualize data flow by connecting the start and end points with a line. For example, this function is useful for visualizing the route of a shipment sent from Point A to Point B.

Full Board Search

One of the search types. This search targets all the items (including charts, spreadsheets, and so on) on a board. To perform this search, full board search conditions must be set to the board definition.

Gantt item

One of the items for MotionBoard. Items used for displaying Gantt chart information based on a dataset. Data appears in a Gantt chart.

Geocoding

In the context of GEO items, a function converting addresses in a data source into latitude-longitude data. This function lets you handle address data as latitude-longitude data.

GEO Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. This item displays data on a map based on a dataset or layers, using GIS (Geographic Information System).

Graphic Drawing Mode

A mode where you can draw lines or write text on a board. It is also called "Freehand Drawing". When you switch to this mode, a dedicated toolbar appears on the screen. The content you draw is reflected on Board Definition Layer in Edit Board Mode, and is reflected on User Layer in View Board Mode.

Group Item

One of the additional items that you can create in the data source definition. Use this item to group particular items whose values meet a specified condition.

Handwritten Image Capture

One of the input items. You can save what you draw by hand on a canvas in a specific area as an image file.

"Home" screen

A screen where you can check various information related to users logged in to MotionBoard all at once. Group information, assigned roles, a list of boards saved as Favorites, and a signboard placed on a board can be displayed on a single screen.

Huff model

A function designed to analyze a trading area in the context of GEO items. This function allows you to compute the ratio of consumers visiting your store among the stores in a particular trading area. The degree of probability is represented in shades of color on a map. It is also called the trading area analysis.

Image Chart

One of the items converted to an image. Images converted from chart items.

Image GEO

One of the items converted to an image. An image converted from a GEO item.

Image Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. An item used for displaying images or videos on a board.

Image URL

Image path or URL that is displayed instead of an item value in chart items and spreadsheet items.

Individual Search

One of the search types. It performs a search targeting specific items on the board. To perform this search, you need to configure the search conditions in the data source definitions.

Indoor map

An image showing the internal structure of the building, which is displayed when the map data is zoomed in to a certain level or more for the GEO item.

Information Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. Items used for displaying dataset search information or chart data statistical information on a board.

In-Memory

Memory area where you create in-memory tables. All of the data used in In-Memory OLAP is stored in in-memory tables. In response to a data retrieval request from MotionBoard, In-Memory OLAP accesses the data in in-memory tables in the in-memory that the data server retains.

In-Memory OLAP

Mechanism (system) that operates data in data sources in MotionBoard by using In-Memory OLAP Engine.

In-Memory OLAP Cluster

System configuration for using In-Memory OLAP. Linkages or the number of connected controllers and data servers, as well as the settings including the memory size used, are referred to as "Cluster Settings".

In-Memory OLAP engine

Collection of functions to execute data operations using In-Memory OLAP. Use this term to refer to In-Memory OLAP services or the executing part (such as programs) of the In-Memory OLAP functions.

In-memory table

Table to store the data operated with In-Memory OLAP. The in-memory on the cluster (data server) retains the in-memory tables.

Input Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. An item containing a form to input data. These items are useful for rewriting system variables and inputting data into a chart.

Item

One of the components comprising an item board. MotionBoard provides various items. You will place these items on the item board to create a board. For example, to view a data-based line chart, use "chart items", and to place data over a map, use "GEO items". A collection of settings that compose an item is called "item definition".

Item Board

One of the boards. A board where items are placed. Depending on how you place items, there are two modes available: Free Layout mode and Layout mode. Within MotionBoard and in this manual, a "board" refers to an item board.

Item Capture

An image showing the state of the item at time of outputting the report in the context of Excel reports.

Item Clipboard

The function to save and manage the created items so that you can use these items for other boards as well.

Item Converted to Image

An image item created by converting an item in the specific display state into an image. Chart items and GEO items can be converted to images.

Item Group

A function to place items dynamically according to the number of data items in the context of Excel reports.

Item Matching

The function that automatically inherits the item settings if an item with the same name exists before and after changing a data source for the data source definition.

Items Not Placed

The items (of the data source) that are not placed in Row Item, Column Item, or Summary Item on the Chart tab of a data source definition.

Item Tab

A tab placed in the four sides of the chart area, displaying the values of row, column, and summary items, respectively. The item tabs allow you to change display conditions and filter for the chart.

Item Toolbar

The bar locating the icons used to display screens to create board private items.

Item Wizard

A function to create an item interactively. You can create chart items or spreadsheet items.

Iteration Condition

Settings that are used to divide one task for each specified condition in the context of SVF reports and Excel reports.

JOIN

One of the model types. A method of horizontally combining data sources that have identical key items. To join the data sources, you need to specify the fact table that is used as the center of the star schema and dimension tables that contain attribute data.

Keymap Post-calc

A function that recomputes post-calc items only when certain conditions are met.

Label
  1. One of the methods for managing boards. When you add a label describing the usage of a board, you can virtually group boards stored in different folders and manage them centrally.

  2. The text displayed on the axis in the context of chart items.

  3. A text area to place characters in 3D space for 3D map items.

Label Format

One of the layouts for SVF Report. A layout to output data of spreadsheet item or chart item in appearance like a label.

Lamp Chart

Lamp-shaped icons (light source) indicating if the value is larger/smaller than or same as the threshold value in a summary table chart. Icons are displayed in the blank area of a cell.

Latitude-Longitude Data

Data containing latitude-longitude information.

Layered Chart

A chart layering multiple charts with different data types and layers and displaying them to be transparent. It is one of chart types. A chart on the bottom (base) of layered charts is called the main chart, while the charts overlaid on it are called sub-charts.

Layer Information File

A file that contains information on areas and points to be overlaid on a map in the GEO item. A layer with areas is called an area layer, and a layer with points is called a point layer.

Layout Editor screen

A function and a screen to create a layout for outputting boards created in MotionBoard as SVF report or Excel report.

Layout Mode

One of the board types and creation methods. It is a mode to create partitions by drawing a boundary on a board before placing items and to place items in partitions.

Level Slider

A user interface used to specify a data level for summary target in the context of chart items. This button appears only when the summary target contains data levels.

Like!

A function to rate a board. Based on the number of "Likes!" for a board, you can see the ranking of the rated boards.

Link Board

One of the boards. A board to display Web sites and Datalizer summary tables.

Link-Form

One of the XML form files. The layout information used for the second and subsequent pages for the SVF report using an XML form file.

Link Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. An item to create links to external Web sites.

Local

MotionBoard as an authentication system. When managing users who log in to MotionBoard with external authentication systems, this term is used to distinguish from them. For example, "local user" means "a user who is registered in MotionBoard", and "local user authentication" means "to log in to MotionBoard using a user who registered to MotionBoard".

Location Information
  1. Data used with data sources for GEO items in order to identify a location, such as latitude-longitude and address data, as well as mesh codes.

  2. Latitude-longitude information that can be retrieved by devices such as mobile devices and is used for identifying user location in Realtime Data Connection.

Main Switch

A switch used for enabling/disabling transmission of user location information and status to MotionBoard in the context of MB IoT Agent.

Main Table

Data that is central to joining data sources with UNION model in the context of Model. Output items for the model are specified on the main table. Combine multiple subtables to a single main table. It is also the name of the reference table that is used when converting columns to rows (UNPIVOT).

Map data

A collective term for map-related data which can be displayed in the map area in the context of GEO items. Data is available in varying precision levels from the worldwide map to the street maps of cities and towns. The higher the level, the better the map precision becomes. Several types of maps in different designs are available.

Map Navigator

Buttons and a slider used to move a map and zoom in or out of the map in the context of GEO items.

Mapping Type

A method used to reflect location information (such as latitude-longitude data and addresses) in a data source to a map in the context of GEO items. Area Name and Latitude-Longitude are available as the mapping types. The location information data required for each mapping type is different.

Master Item

One of the additional items that you can create in the data source definition. This item is helpful to use an item from another data source as a master (data item) in the corresponding data source.

Material

A group of settings such as color, transparency, and border of the shape placed in 3D space for 3D map items.

MB IoT Agent

An application for mobile devices that is designed to send user location information and status to MotionBoard.

Memo

Text that can be written on a board or its area. It is neither one of the items nor text that can be written in Graphic Drawing Mode.

Migration

Tasks of transferring data from the previous version to a new version so that you can use the same data in the new version. To migrate data, use the dedicated tool called "migration tool".

Mobile View

A preview you can check how a board appears in the MotionBoard Mobile on a web browser.

Model

A set of different data sources that are logically combined using model definitions and actual data (such as CSV files and tables). In-memory tables referred to during operation and views themselves are sometimes called "model".

"Model Editor" screen

A screen for creating and editing models (settings).

Model Type

Type of model. "JOIN" or "UNION" can be used to combine data and "UNPIVOT" can be used to convert columns to rows.

MotionBoard Agent

An application for efficiently operating (mainly uploading) files to the MotionBoard Server from a client PC or other devices.

MotionBoard Bridge Client

An application required for operating a PC as the Bridge Client. After installing this application, a PC works as the Bridge Client. You can generate an installer by creating Bridge Client settings on the Bridge server.

MotionBoard Client

A collective term for computers and software that are connected to the MotionBoard Server and use MotionBoard.

MotionBoard Mobile

An application enabling you to use MotionBoard features on mobile devices such as smartphones. It cannot be used on MotionBoard Ver.6.0 or earlier.

MotionBoard Server

A computer in which MotionBoard is installed.

MotionBoard View

The function to handle the spreadsheet data retrieved from multiple data sources as a single data source using JOIN or UNION. Unlike the models, you do not need to prepare a storage location of the joined data.

Multi-Controller

A group of controllers that belong to the same cluster configuration in the context of In-Memory OLAP. It can be used in a redundant configuration.

Multi-Tenant
  1. A function allowing you to use multiple tenants. A group of tenants.

  2. A function allowing you to handle multiple databases as a single database (known as database integration) in the context of Oracle Database.

My Boards

One of the folders for managing boards. This folder is a folder accessible to the corresponding user only. The other users (except for users who have the "administrator" system roles) cannot access this folder.

Named User

A user who is allowed to use MotionBoard. The maximum number of users is determined by the license type.

Name Matching

Matching place name information in the data source against area names and point names included in the area layer or the point layer in the context of GEO items.

Navigator

A tool designed to support board operations, which is placed on the right side of a board. This tool includes "Item Navigator" that supports item operations and "Button Action Navigator" that illustrates relationships, such as the order of button items being executed.

Network map item

One of the items for MotionBoard. An item for visually expressing the strengths of mutual connections between data.

Non-Aggregate Chart Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. Items used for creating non-aggregate charts based on a dataset. These items display the distribution of spreadsheet data.

OAuth

A mechanism that uses an access token to grant permissions (such as access permissions) to resources in specific services. In MotionBoard, this is used when connecting to and using some data sources, file systems, and chat applications.

Object

A collective term for solids and text areas to be placed on 3D map items.

Offline Chart

Files converted from chart items. You can download an offline chart from a chart item. Since all the necessary information for displaying and using a chart is embedded in a file, you do not need to connect to MotionBoard to view the chart.

One-Shot Query

A method of joining data in the connected database in the context of MotionBoard View.

Online Map

Map data that can be obtained from the map distribution server of MotionBoard Online Map Service. Mapion and MapFan are the examples of commercial map search services.

Operation State

State of operating items and components placed on a board. MotionBoard allows you to save an operation state (except for some functions).

Option Sheet

A sheet containing information on how to import a target Excel file into MotionBoard for Excel load function. The sheet name is "MB Import Option".

Page Guide

A function that splits a board into the page size. You can print the split board as a page or output as a file. A boundary is drawn on the board according to the sizes. This boundary tells you how the board is divided. The following split methods are available: "Fixed Page" that splits a board into the same sizes and "Free Page" that splits a board into any size you choose.

Page Settings Mode

A status used for splitting a board into the page size.

Panel Bar

A bar displayed on the right side of the board. Various screens such as Item Property, Chart Editor, and Dataset Property are being collected. A dedicated bar for Edit Board mode. It can be used as a fixed display or as a separate display for free movement.

Panel type

One of the display formats (view type) for calendar items. It overlays visually appealing values on each panel representing a day on a calendar.

Partition

An area where items can be placed in Board in Layout Mode or a container item.

Persistent Storage

Saving data used by In-Memory OLAP or Realtime Data Connection into a database or a file. Since In-Memory OLAP and Realtime Data Connection run by loading data into memory, data is cleared when you restart the service. However, persistent storage allows you to continue using the data even after restarting the service.

Plugin Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. It is an item for using programs written in JavaScript on the board. Using a js file with the extension "js", you can create your own items.

Post-Calc Item

One of the additional items that you can create in the data source definition. This item is used for utilizing the result generated by re-calculating the result of aggregation based on the data source definition. MotionBoard provides dedicated functions called post-calculation functions for retrieving a value. You can edit the retrieved value by arithmetic operations or using a post-calc script.

PowerPoint Report

A report outputting images and data of items placed on the MotionBoard board in the PowerPoint file format. Layouts are specified by inserting tags (provided text strings) in a PowerPoint slide.

Presumed Address After Conversion

An address that is used when the longitude-latitude is not identified from the address data in Geocoding and the granularity of this address is reduced to the extent that the longitude-latitude can still be identified in the context of GEO items. For example, if it is unable to identify the longitude-latitude for the block number (banchi) of "1 chome, 1 banchi, xx City", "1 chome, xx City" is used as the presumed address.

Property

Whole items that indicate the settings and status for items, components, and datasets.

Ranking Condition

One of the analysis settings that can be defined in data source definitions. It is a condition specialized in ranking and sorting analytical data.

RC Service

An application necessary for distributing images and data of items placed on a board as e-mail attachments or files.

Realtime Alert

A function that monitors at predetermined intervals whether or not a preset alert condition is satisfied. You can configure to send an e-mail or execute server programs when the conditions are satisfied. It can be used for chart items.

Realtime Analysis

One of the analysis settings that can be defined in data source definitions. It is an analysis (condition) that receives sequentially generated data at regular intervals and reflects and displays it on the chart in real time.

Realtime Data

Data stored in MotionBoard using the Realtime Data Connection function. It can be used as data sources (system data sources). A table storing data is created for each real-time template.

Realtime Data Connection

A function that sends the information on a device to MotionBoard and accumulates it as a data source in MotionBoard.

Realtime Template

A set of settings that act as "rules" for sending data from a device and storing it in MotionBoard with Realtime Data Connection. The term "rules" refers to status, MB IoT Agent settings, persistent storage settings for realtime data, and so on.

Redundancy

A mechanism to run multiple PC units in integration to prevent the operation from being suspended when one of the PC units fails. Device configuration using this mechanism is called a "redundant configuration".

  1. For In-Memory OLAP, it is realized by preparing backup controllers and data servers in case of a failure.

  2. For Bridge Service, it is realized by preparing a backup Bridge Client in case of a problem in a Bridge group.

  3. For clustering, it is realized by having another node that can continue the operation even if a problem occurs with the node in the cluster configuration.

Refresh Interval

Time interval for updating the display content of an item with the latest state.

Relation
  1. A function to link operations on multiple items. There are two types of relations: a "system relation" that is automatically generated by MotionBoard, and a "user relation" that is created by a user.

  2. A method of joining a fact table and dimension tables that is set to join data sources with JOIN in the context of Model. It is created between key items such as IDs.

Reload
  1. The operation of importing the entire data from a data source according to the cluster settings and in-memory table settings to store the imported data in a storage location in the context of In-Memory OLAP.

  2. The operation of importing the entire data from a data source according to the join condition to store the join result in a storage location in the context of Model.

  3. The operation of re-importing data from a connected database in the context of data source definitions.

  4. The operation of re-importing data according to saved settings in the context of item definitions.

Replication

A snapshot in which a duplicate of data is created. It can retain only one generation of data as a history. After duplicating data for the first time, you can duplicate only the difference (updated or newly added data). Therefore, you can expect an improvement in data processing speed and a reduction in data storage time.

Report Director Enterprise

Server software that works as a print manager for print data created by user applications that output forms. It is also referred to as RDE.

Road information data

Data used for route searches, reachable area calculations, and Huff modeling in the context of GEO items. The road information data is available in the Japan version and the world version.

Role

A group of privileges for using the product functions. There are "system roles" that are prepared in MotionBoard and "custom roles" that can be created and customized by users.

Row Axis

One of the chart axes. It is the X-axis of the chart and represents a value of the row item. It is also called a horizontal axis.

Row Gridline

A line drawn in the chart area based on the values that meet the specified conditions (standard value) as the base point.

Row Item
  1. An item that segments summary values in the context of charts. The X-axis is generated based on this item in a line chart.

  2. The items placed at Row Item on the Chart tab on the Data Source Editor screen or Row Item on the Gantt tab in the context of data source definitions.

Scale Marker

A function that expresses the summary item values using background colors of the chart area in the context of chart items. You can observe approximate values of the data points by looking at the data point positions on a chart and the background colors of the chart area.

Scenario

The method to specify in advance how the drill-down or drill-through action to be executed for chart items and spreadsheet items. It is also referred to as a drill-down scenario or a drill-through scenario.

Schedule Bar

A bar displayed at the top of the schedule-type screen for specifying date and day of the week in the context of calendar items.

Schedule Type

One of the display formats (view type) for calendar items. You can display a Gantt chart (chronological chart indicating the degree of process or progress) over a calendar.

Scoring

A function for obtaining scored data using methods, such as statistical analysis and machine learning, based on the data to be analyzed.

Search Candidates

A value or a list of values that can be specified as an individual search condition. Specify these values for the search conditions on the Data Source Editor screen.

Search component

Search conditions placed on a board by specifying a search item from the Full Board Search or Individual Search screen. This is mainly used for cases where frequently used search conditions exist (This feature saves your time of selecting search conditions from the menu).

Search conditions

A set of items and conditions that are necessary for searching data from items (such as charts, spreadsheets, and filters) having data source definitions. The condition settings are saved in data source definitions and the search is performed on datasets.

Select Item Tool

A tool used for changing sizes and positions of the items placed on a board in the context of Edit Board mode. You can use this tool for boards in Free Layout mode.

Sequence
  1. One of the methods to store and manage data in in-memory tables in the context of In-Memory OLAP. Stores added data after the last time you stored data in an in-memory table. You can add data by setting items with data number values (such as an ID consisting of numbers) or items with date-time values (such as the sales date-time) as "sequence items".

  2. One of the methods to store and manage data on models in the context of Model. You can (specify a task to) add data using the sequence as a marker to identify additional data to be stored.

Shape

A 3D map item. A solid figure that represents a layout in 3D space.

Shape Item

One of the items for MotionBoard. Items with shapes such as circles, rectangles, triangles, and the like. These items are useful in cases when you need a shape or figure on a board to explain something.

Shared Disks
  1. The disks used for multiple controllers to read and write persistent data and the settings of In-Memory OLAP in a redundant configuration in the context of In-Memory OLAP.

  2. The disks used for sharing data among multiple MotionBoard units in the context of clustering.

Shared folder items

One of the items for MotionBoard. Items used for sharing folders and files among users. The user can upload and share files.

Shortcut Button

A button that appears next to the item while the item is active and is assigned with a frequently used function in Edit Board mode.

Single Data Source

A term used to describe when only one data source is used in the data source definition.

Single Sign-on

A mechanism where users can log in to MotionBoard without entering their ID and password each time in the environment where MotionBoard is linked with external systems. The available sign-on methods are "internal single sign-on" that uses a user ID authenticated by the external authentication system and "external single sign-on" that uses a user ID specified in the GET or POST parameter in the URL.

Snapshot

Data at a particular point retrieved from a data source according to the schedule specifying such as date and time or the number of shots taken. It is used for comparing and analyzing the transition of status from past to present.

Snapshot Save Destination

A database in which snapshots are stored. A table is created in a database specified as a snapshot save destination, and data is saved in the table.

SPA

A product that archives files (in various format such as PDF) output from SVF products as "documents", and then organizes and safely stores them.

SPA integration

A function that connects MotionBoard and SPA, and uses data in documents stored in SPA as MotionBoard data source.

Spreadsheet Data Format

One of the output formats of Excel Report. Use this format to select desired items from data used by an item created on a board and output them to an Excel file sheet.

Spreadsheet Format

One of the layouts for SVF Report. It is a layout to output data of a spreadsheet item or chart item in the format like spreadsheet.

Spreadsheet item

One of the items for MotionBoard. An item used for displaying a spreadsheet based on a dataset. It displays data in detail in either table or card format.

"Start Navigator" screen

A screen opened right after logging in to MotionBoard. It displays a list of created boards. You can change the settings to show a particular board or the Home screen.

Start Page

A board displayed right after logging in to MotionBoard. For the +Mobile application, it is called "Mobile Start Page" to be distinguished from this start page.

Story

A function displaying boards as a slide show, using a mouse or a keyboard.

Subtable

The data having the same items as the main table in the context of Model. Subtables do not have to have the same number of items as the main table. Use to join data sources with UNION.

Summary Item
  1. The item represents the summary value in the context of charts. The Y-axis is generated based on this item in a line chart.

  2. The items placed at Summary Item on the Chart tab on the Data Source Editor screen in the context of data source definitions.

Summary Table Format

One of the layouts for SVF Report. It is a layout used to output chart items as a summary table.

Supplement List

A setting used for "Data Supplement" that displays data that does not exist in items in the context of data source definitions.

SVF Cloud

A cloud service used to output forms based on SVF products, which are a form platform solution.

SVF Connect for Java API

A program required to integrate an application server that uses Java application programs with an SVF server that performs output processing.

SVF Designer

An application to edit the form designs such as arrangement of layouts and fields. SVFX-Designer and SVF Web Designer are included.

SVF for Excel

An optional model for the SVF output engine. By adding this model to the SVF output engine, you can output data Excel files.

SVF for Java Print

This library product to output data to printers through API.

SVF for PDF

This library product to output PDF files and other electronic documents through API.

SVF output engine

A product to combine an XML form file created using SVF Designer with various data to output the result to a device or a file. SVF for Java Print and SVF for PDF are included.

SVF Report

A report format file by outputting a board and data in MotionBoard. You can create the report layout on the Layout Editor screen or use form design data (XML form file). Reports are output through SVF output engine or SVF Cloud.

SVF Web Designer

An application for designing forms shown on a Web browser among SVF products. You can create form design data (XML form files) in the same manner as with SVFX-Designer.

SVFX-Designer

An application for designing forms among SVF products. You can create form design data (XML form files).

system datasources

A collective term for special data sources that are retained in MotionBoard. The retained information includes board access history, cumulative total of board access events, realtime data, and so on. To use system datasources, select from Connect to on the Select Data Source screen.

System Relation

One of the relations. A relation automatically generated when a filter item is created. It is indicated by an orange arrow.

System Role

One of the role types. The role provided by MotionBoard as default. Several types of roles (such as administrators and standard users) are provided assuming users who utilize MotionBoard.

System Variables
  1. One of the variables for MotionBoard. The variables provided in MotionBoard by default. They can be used for all boards.

  2. A collective term including user system variables.

Tag
  1. One of the methods to store and manage data in in-memory tables in the context of In-Memory OLAP. You can delete and update data by setting marks called "tags" to items. In addition, you can search for and aggregate the values of tagged items more quickly than ordinary items. The values of tagged items are retained and managed as data sets grouped by the same data values.

  2. One of the methods to store and manage data on models in the context of Model. You can (set a task to) delete data by setting marks called "tags" to items.

Template Excel

A layout created on an Excel file sheet.

Temporary Query

A method of joining data in MotionBoard in the context of MotionBoard View.

Tenant

A mechanism of separating managed data areas to use for one product or its respective data area. A function allowing usage of multiple tenants is called "Multi-Tenant Function". The master tenant is called "System Tenant" that offers administrative functions that the other tenants do not have.

Text item

One of the items for MotionBoard. Items used for displaying fixed text on a board.

The item ID

An identification ID assigned for every item. Each ID is unique.

Transition Arrow

An arrow line indicating the transition to each element in a scatter chart or a bubble chart. You can see the transition over time between elements.

Translation Variable

A type of variable. There are system variables whose values can be switched according to the user's language settings.

UNION

One of the model types. A method of combining data sources vertically. To join the data sources, you need to specify the main table where you configure output items for the model, along with subtables that contain the same items.

Universal Connect/X

This product enables you to transfer print data to the SVF output engine through timer-controlled automatic monitoring to output forms in various formats. This tool manages the necessary information at the time of printing per job, such as the XML form files to be used, data, output location, languages, and so on. It is also called as UCX.

UNPIVOT

One of the model types. A method of converting columns to rows. Unlike JOIN or UNION, it is not the method of combining data.

Update Key
  1. One of the conditions used to update item values in the context of database input processing. You can update the item values only when the specified item appears on the screen.

  2. An item that is used to determine if there is a difference in data between generations when outputting difference comparison data in the context of snapshots.

Use cache database

The function to accumulate and operate the spreadsheet data acquired from the data source of the connecting location as a cache for each external connection prepared in MotionBoard.

"User Home" screen

A screen where other users can see the information of a user logged in to MotionBoard such as name and the list of boards created by the user. A part of the Home screen became a separate screen.

User Layer

A layer that is available only for the currently logged-in user to MotionBoard. The user can save results of operations, such as changing the displayed chart types and writing memos on the board, on this layer. The operations on this layer are not saved as a board definition. Therefore, they affect only the currently logged-in user.

User Relation

One of the relations. A relation that users can create. It is indicated by a blue arrow.

User System Variables

One of the variables for MotionBoard. Variables created by a user. They can be used for all boards and can be deleted.

Value Axis

One of the chart axes. The Y-axis of the chart and represents a value of the summary item. It is also called a vertical axis.

View Board Mode

A state in which you cannot edit a board (you cannot save a board definition). The blue boundary between the board menu and the board item area indicates that you are in this mode. It is also called the user mode.

Width Slider

A slider allowing you to change the line width of a chart. For summary table charts, it refers to a zoom slider that allows you to change the ratio of display scale.

XML Form File

A file containing form layout information. You can create this file using SVF Designer (SVFX-Designer or SVF Web Designer). It is also referred to as "Form design data".
